“Summertime and the livin' is easy! Fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high…” a song composed by George Gershwin reminds me of the Biblical accounts found in John 21 and Luke 5.  The only challenge was the fishermen were having difficulties catching fish.  Luke 5:5 says,  “Simon answering said unto him, “Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing”.  The fish were in the sea but they could not catch any.  John 21:6 “ Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No. The fish were in the sea but they could not catch any.

These two passages are so relevant to some Christian churches today.  It is “Summertime and the livin' is easy, Fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high…”, some churches have toiled and toiled to build and to grow a church but yet they remain restrained from growth, few new breeding and very little harvesting of souls.

Could the dilemma for restrained growth, few new breeding and very little harvesting of souls won for the kingdom God, be that many churches are using the copycat method to run their churches.  Copycatting what they see other churches do. Could it be that some Churches are consistently harvesting on the wrong side in the wrong location using a method that does not work for their Ministry.  Jesus replied, to His disciples, “Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find."  God has a designated place in a sea of souls that he would like for certain ministries to hone in on.  We don’t have to be a copycat, we don’t have to toil for years and years, but the Church does need to just stop and ask the Lord, where is our niche, who is our community, where is our target for souls? “Where should we cast our net to win souls?”

“Summertime and the livin' is easy. Fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high…”  The harvest truly is plentiful, but the labourers are few; 38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest. Matthew 9:37-38

Let's go fishing, until the net breaks!  Lord, Where should we cast our nets to win souls?
